Chrome Family Safety Extension

Hi there!

Please help us improve our Chrome addon. What do you like? What don’t you like? What can we change or add to the browser? I personally read every piece of feedback that comes in and I try my best to reply to every one of them also.

Hey, did you know that we now have a free iPad browser? You can download it here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/free-browser-for-families./id675451608?mt=8

Thanks,
Paul

  2. Metacert chrome extension works well, but has started returning NO results in google.

Metacert chrome extension works well, but has started returning NO results in google. Redirects to https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=utf-8&safe=strict with no search terms in the address afterwards. Only seems to happen when searching from the address bar

  3. To put restrictions on Disabling the MetaCert Extension from Chrome Extensions Settings page.

    Hey Paul,

My name is Shivanshu Rathore, a citizen of India and also a user of MetaCert extension for Google Chrome browser. I would love to keep this mail as short as possible and to gather your attention on this mail also.

A little introduction about myself and the reason why you should pay a very little attention to my mail is that, i am a freelancer manual exploratory tester. I wont say the thing which i am concerned about, is a bug, but a suggestion it is.

Metacert takes in a password and email id, and to make changes…

  4. You need a getting started or how to use app help section

It would be wonderful if there was a tdetailed getting started section on your home page. It may seem straight forward to your development team but I would like to be sure I am using the app correctly.

  5. Fix the obvious bugs

Not an improvement so much as a bug report.
When trying to configure the filters, the page is larger than my son's small 1024x600 resolution can handle.

Secondly, youtube videos are blocked. My son watches a lot of safe youtube videos, but regardless of whether "Social Networks" is On or Off, he can't.

Speaking of which, it would help to have a clarification of what the switches for each category actually mean. Is "ON" meaning that the filter is on or that those types of sites are allowed?

  6. Block lolclips.net and boredclips.com

I asked that these sites should be blocked some time ago. They're still unblocked, and they're still full of p**n. Can they be blocked please?

  8. The only fundamental feature that there is no

Is very simple for anyone to uninstall the plugin.
So can you add a password protection to prevent the uninstallation (in Firefox and in Chrome)?
    Kids are very very smart!
If you add this feature i think that metacert could be the best family filter!

    Thanks!

@cloubu you are right. This is why our browser software is more suitable for young kids and adults (who want to block explicit content).

You could try using our DNS service which is more difficult for kids to disable. There is more info on our website and the service is free https://blog.metacert.com/metacert-dns-for-family-safety/

We will update our browser extensions soon but it’s technically very difficult if not impossible (for some browsers) to stop users from deleting or uninstalling extensions.

  9. Lock safe search - & - Password Protection - & - Lock File Storage sites

I think that you should to:
    - add an option to lock safe search for the most important search engines (Google, Bing, ...) like K9 Web Protection
    (www.k9webprotection.com/)
    - add a password to prevent the uninstallation of the plugin like ProCon Latte for Firefox
    (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/procon-latte/)
    - add an option to lock File Storege sites (rapidshare, mediafire, ... and the search engine FilesTube) like OpenDNS (they contain a lot of **** images and videos!!!)

If you add these option I think that Metacert will be very strong.
    Thanks! Warm regards

    Damiano

We will update our Firefox extension to match that of our Chrome software as soon as we can – but it’s about one to months away.

Our Chrome extension does have much better security across image and video search. I’m afraid it’s not technically possible to stop people from uninstalling browser extensions in Chrome. But it is in Firefox so we will include that feature in an upcoming release.

Everything you ask for is included in our iPad browser so we are working hard to make these improvements across all our products.

  10. Tiny "adult oriented" ads on web sites, like fox news, my local TV station, etc.

Thank you for the great work you do in content filtering. How can I set MetaCert to block the tiny adult-oriented ads, or what I call "junk" ads that appear on a lot of web sites? And not knowing what you consider "adult", I mean the stuff like Victoria Secrets, pictures of women with large breasts barely covered up and worse, or liberal type content. I am a Christian and conservative and know how this stuff can draw people in and eventually harm them. I want to be able to set up my PC to block this mess out so…

  11. Entering lewd search terms into google only returns accessible pornographic content, defeating the purpose altogether...

Typing a pornographic search into google generally returns at least 2-3 accessible **** sites (generally 3rd party sites), and nothing else. This makes it easy to find the few sites that ARE accessible. How can I avoid this problem?

Hello, I am trying to watch videos on YouTube, but all of the channels and videos are unavailable or non-existent. When I disable Metacert, the videos and channels begin working. I have checked if these videos are labeled as safe by Metacert's standards, and they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi there,

What setting do you have set on your Chrome extension? And what page do you get when you try to access the videos? If our extension is blocking anything you will see a block page.

    Warm regards,
    Paul

  14. Enterprise Management of Chrome Extension

Is there way to manage filter settings across Chromebooks rather than having to configure each one separately? That would be a huge benefit.

  15. Block Specific Websites

If at all possible could you add the capability for us to block specific websites and/or domains from settings that aren't caught by MetaCert's filters?

  19. Adult Swim / Adult Cartoons

The first thing I looked for to test the product out was adult, it brought up adult swim at the top and I was able to watch the videos on their site. I was hoping to avoid nudity and persuasive content like adult cartoons. I selected almost all of the child blocks except for violence.

We plan to offer a monitoring service in the coming months. We will look at adding an email update to see if it’s something we can do along with “alerts” based on specific keywords that are used to search.
